flaming locomotive is a Perth-based theatre maker and producer founded by Allan Girod in 2007. I strive to create shows that peel back the layers of our duality. I challenge myself and audiences with the beauty and discomfort of humanity, our capacity for friend and foe, creator and spoiler, being fantastic and flawed.
Always exploring and learning I work across theatrical styles. My favourites so far for bringing out the creative best have been storytelling, physical theatre and clown. My focus is always on relating to audience, sharing our common experiences in striking ways in the hope they are moved to find who they really want to be.
The art of storytelling, acting and clown have transformed the way I relate to people and the world. I find my self more trusting, confident, compassionate, expressive, inquisitive and courageous than before. I partner with community centres, schools and social service organisations to present creative programs that add genuine value to people’s lives. Of course I can’t help myself, whether it is for skills, personal or professional development, I have to make them inclusive, fun and memorable.
Allan discovered performing by accident whilst teaching in a small WA farming community. He now works as an actor, storyteller, clown, writer, theatre maker and producer designing theatre for regional and international touring. Critically acclaimed productions for flaming locomotive include The Good Thief (2007 – 2009), When Harry Met Harry (2010 – 2011) and Absolutely (2014 – now).
He has collaborated with many independent theatre makers, performed on ABCTV, Channel 9, also with Perth International Arts Festival and Cirque du Soleil.
As creative producer of the inspiring new Fringe World venue The Flaming Locomotive, Allan aims to provide opportunities for emerging and touring artists in intimate theatre spaces. The venture began in 2016 with the simple motto; This venue is run FOR artists, BY artists, so all profits go TO artists. It won Fringe World Best New Program Award in the Independent Venue Category.
